HOUSE OF BEEF:
What've the bastards been up to?
Sept 2006 news
excellent progress has been made on the crippled black phoenix debut CD. the last bits of polishing are taking place, and some gigs are being lined up. hold on tight. this should be cool.
June 2006 news
silence can be a good friend. since the last update, some of us went out on the road with LA sludgers 16. Nial played a short stint in ex-white zombie drummer ivan deprume's healer. in july he will go over to the UK to perform on crippled black phoenix, a collaboration with electric wizards justin, and dominic from mogwai at geoff barron (portishead) studio in bristol.
some new tracks have been written.. recorded.. who knows about a release.. very rough scratch tracks. if we arent breaking new ground or at least levelling heavy objects, it wont see the light of day! working track for the album is 'halo of knives'
Sept 2001 news
we've got a new
drummer in the form of jason from GOATSNAKE, and tour dates for our november
UK/euro tour are coming together nicely. to round out the roster of bodies,
we're proud to have mike peoples (bass)from 16 VOLT and clayton wavering(guitar)
from SKATENIGS and SKREW going out on the road with the band. during the
past few months, the band has been actively writing new material for an
upcoming release. in case you havent heard, 3D has relocated from SF to
LA to escape the insane rents and overpriced everything that has become
the bay area.
Mar 2001 news
We are extremely
pleased to let you all know that we've signed a deal with lunasound
recording from sweden. they are distributed by pavement
music so you should be able to get your mitts on a copy SOON! release
date is april 2001. better start digging those bomb shelters now. bass
can travel, you know. we've done our final show for spring, look for tour
dates this summer and fall worldwide. look for a copy of "Laughing
Outside" on the upcoming "chaos
around the bay" comp CD
Nov 2000 news
LOW CYCLE is now a reality.
mastering was done at the
plant in sausalito, ca. our stuff had so much bass that their $250,000
speakers were distorting. glad they didnt blow up. we still anticipate
cheaper stereos to have problems due to the low end. yes we rubbed elbows
with metallica. I am much taller than jason newstead. and no, i didnt
put a napster sticker on his car.
but i thought about it. a lot.
right now we are sending out
copies to record labels who expressed interest in them, back when. keep
yer fingers crossed.
there is a track off the new
album up on mp3.com/3d_house_of_beef or check napster. we played metalfest
in LA last weekend, and much thanks to all who attended. it was an excellent
time. i'll get some pics from the performance up soon. it was weird to
walk through and see goatwhore, benumb, and witchery all within minutes
of each other. it was like the mall of metal performance. i dont know
how people dont get numb after the 30th band playing "BLUUUUURRRRGH!!"
our i (heart) metal stickers
were VERY VERY popular there. within 3 hours we had given away over 800
of the things.
whoa.
right now i'm listening to
rhino records' sci-fi "brain in a box" compilation and you know what?
leonard nimoy is a damn weirdo. but he kicks the captians ass. thats it
for now.
thanks to YOU, the fans. without
you, we would be.. practicing in a club.
Sept 2000 news
we just got done with the last
bit of tracking for our upcoming album LOW CYCLE... Alex Newport (http:www.linear-recording.com)
has done an amazing job of getting us on tape. one of the first times
we have ever sounded on tape like we do live. todds drums sound awesome.
the guitars are really in your face. and no SM57 shure microphones were
used. heheh. all thats left is some mixdowns and final mastering. there
are plenty of amazing takes on this round of devastation. including 2
new songs in A. the mesa dual rectifier was hating us big time. the vanous
evolution handled it without so much as a hiccup. some of you have seen
this amazing amp at some of our live shows, it will be a big part of the
new 3d live sound... we also got a new round of stickers made up, and
we are giving a prize package of 20 of them away to one lucky winner this
month. also we just found out that we will be playing with M.I.R.V. at
the portland NXNW gig. i guess they are the secret headliners this year..
very cool...
Aug 2000 news
we are playing NXNW friday sept 22 midnight at the tonic lounge. we are
going back in the studio, on the 12th with Alex Newport twisting the knobs.
4 new songs to pound down on DAT. we're still in top 10 on mp3.com's metal
section. mp3.com is giving us money. hoo-ray. napster gave us prime real
estate on their "buycott"
promotion web site. its hotter than crap here. yet another rehearsal
studio in the bay closes as a result of the yuppie money onslaught. over
200 band rehearsal spaces at downtown rehearsal are going to be "renovated"
into high buck "live work" lofts. pricetag? probably over the
$700,000 USD. each. yes, idiots are willing to pay almost a million dollars
each for legally wrangled ugly assed raquetball court-esque condos in
the worst neighborhoods in the whole bay.. we are talking with booking
agents in the UK and europe for touring info for the fall.
July 2000 news
*UPDATE*
we are confirmed for a date at this years NXNW
music festival in portland, oregon. anyone willing to flyer for
us or help get the word out, get ahold
of us! we'll hook you up with some free goodies and such.
*UPDATE*
there is so much going on its got a separate page
check it out.
June 2000 news
we just got
hooked up with german metal distributors LAUFRAUS
RECORDS. we are back in writing mode, and are putting the finishing
touches on some more audio sick force. we scrapped the EP idea and are
going for a full length release. the show with INCANTATION was pretty
amazing, we used more bass cabinets this time and the resulting sound
was "way more evil". it was good to have a real PA to pummel
through for once. ryan blew the back out of a brand new marshall JCM 900
4x12 cabinet. guess they don't make them like they used to.
we got added to the BUZZ on audio highway click on the link below to check it out...
May 2000 news
we've been
busy recording, giving shit away, getting our new backline together and
setting up shows for summer. we want to write some more stuff in order
to shop a full length album to labels so there is a momentary lapse in
release schedule but for now peruse some of the samples
of the new stuff. careful with that bass, eugene....
Feb 2000 news
its been 9 long months since the last news update, so much has been going on that what we've
forgotten would fill up a small manifesto.
- NEW ALBUM: in the works is a new 8-10 song LP that should clock in at over 50 minutes
of full frontal assault. some very special people have agreed to work on this new un-natural thing that
very well might smother the earth.
- NEW sounds: we are working closely with a major manufacturer of premium guitar amplifiers on a new line
of amps specifically designed for low tuned guitars. they will be featured prominently on the new record, and
potentially in our touring backline.
- NEW member: adding tremendously to the already over the top sound will be the guitar work of Ryan Paul.
Ryan is a New Orleans to SF transplant who brings great things to the table.
- NEW tours: plans are in the works for more touring of the UK, and europe sometime this spring.
May 1999 news
the tour
is done, thanks to all who came, saw and got their asses kicked. especial
thanks to Jose from JMG agency for setting up the whole thing, and thanks

Destruction
by excessive SPL's
We
came again for seconds... 3D did another tour of the UK assisted by
the able bodied Big
A from Iommi Stubbs
on subharmonic distorion cannon. analysis: Hailing from Seattle,
3D House of Beef may be blessed with one dodgy name but their music
is anything but. Applying Godflesh's technological approach to the fucked
up scuzz of early Melvins would raise the eyebrows on paper, and in
the flesh the band live up to the expectations that such a description
would invoke. They don't look like aural terrorists when they take to
the stage, but as the set progresses I wonder if they ought to be stamped
with some sort of health warning. The rhythm section hits like an overdose
of tamazipan, leaving an overly-distorted guitar/vocals combination
to inflict some severe damage on a seismograph or three. Maybe that's
why my trains were so screwed up on the journey home ...
thanks to Terroriser
for the above review of the london show

September 1997
news
Scarred
Beef
Phil
and Nial joined Steve Watkins of San Franciso's Scar
Tissue
at Scar Tissue's performance at the Fenix in Seattle on September 4th.
Scar Tissue's guitarist broke his arm, and was unable to do the gig.
Steve and Phil traded some pretty cool tribal drumming licks, whilst
Nial provided some noisy guitar bits. It turned out quite cool. We may
have some samples available here shortly. Thanks to Steve for asking
us to do the gig. We had a blast. We also enjoyed the performance of
Germany's NoiseX,
in the headlining position.
August 1997 news
Three
tracks completed for the forthcoming EP
We
spent the weekend of August 22 through August 24 holed up in the studio
recording and mixing three new songs for this year's EP. We think the
tracks are some of the most musically adventurous that this lineup has
attempted. We know you will, too. Samples will appear soon, so keep
checking back when your libido tells you to. Us? We're going to take
showers. We stink.
Work
that remains includes gathering remixes (Leechwoman
and others) and recording some more experimental tracks. Release is
scheduled for late this year, probably around December.

money now. This isn't something you want to miss.
July 1997 update
(covers November 1996 through July 1997)
Since there
is so much to tell, we can only hit on the highlights. If we missed
names, and events, it's cause working in illicit comestables, and high
dollar "services" tends to make us a bit, well, forgetful...
You
understand. Yes you do.
Web
site gets a facelift
Phil
placed his warm and loving yet calloused hands all over the old pages
and gave them the look that many x-Iraqi soldiers and Mike Tyson opponents
dream of. If your're reading this, then you're soaking in it. Look for
the sound samples, screen saver, and other addictive treatlets. Send
us fan mail. Tell us you love
it.
Ace
Frehley tribute CD
The
latest news is that we have submitted a track for the Ace
Frehley
tribute CD entitled Return
of the Comet.
We did a track from Ace's solo days called Stranger in a Strange
Land, and it truly is a strange take. Think: Beat Happening's vocalist
with the thunderous backing that you all know and lust. Think: Ground
up by a road grader so it retains none of the nutritional value of the
former, yet obtains new and interesting shapes.
Ask
not what your Beef can do for you... We need your help.
The
tracks are to be voted on by adoring fans after August 21st, and we
need you to help us reenact many South American elections, and help
us win a slot on there. Stay tuned for details on how the voting will
work.
Go
to: http://acefrehley.com/audio/acksongs.html
and check it out. You can listen to the track there.
Our
own depressing love affairs
After selling our CDs at bake sales, gun shows, lowrider conventions,
and Cub Scout outings, Relapse Records (USA)
has decided to sell our CD for us via mail order. You can contact Relapse
at (1) 717 397-5706 9am to 8pm EST. And, as an unexpected bundle of
joy juice, Fluffy
Bunny Records/Pinnacle Distribution
has decided to unleash the CD in the UK and Europe. Look for it in stores
in the next few months. Thank you to Jimmy Possession for that coupling
of John Holmesesque proportions.
An additional
bit of joy due to our lovely name, we are the FIRST BAND listed in the
HUGE relapse catalog. mmm numbers are goood. mmmmm.
As always,
if you run fanzines with a decent run, put on shows, are in a band,
or have a radio show (in the UK), get ahold of us: NOSPAMnialm@msn.com
and we will send you some goodies.
Love,
Merzbow
If you see an interview with Merzbow, look for the promo
photo of Masami Akita
holding a gun and wearing a long sleeve shirt. Note the writing on the
side of the sleeve. This photo has appeared in Seconds,
Industrial Nation, The WIRE, and a bunch
of others that feature Merzbow. We love him, too.
UK tour
wankery
Look
for us to come BACK, yes BACK to the UK this Fall. After having slept
in snow covered vans, eating pot noodles, and stinking worse than poodle
groomers' fingers, we are going back to do it all over again. Big thanks
to the people who let us sleep in their houses, and to the Scarabaeus
clan. we couldnt have done it without you. If you missed out the
first time, well sad to say you missed out. You friends can brag that
they saw us. You however, were perhaps massaging portions of yourself
in a rhythmic and unnatural manner. Perhaps while the Spice
Girls danced
in your head. especially the one with the really BIG HAIR.
Best parts
of playing the UK:
- Birmingham
crowds reaction to the Crazy Gods of Endless Noise headlining
after we had played. Just not your crowd, there kids. Hope your tour
bus was nice and cozy.
- Nutters
at the Uxbridge Swan and Bottle. Never have so few done so much damage
to so many....
- Getting
all done with 9 shows in 10 days, and wanting to go back out and do
it all over again.
We are
planning on playing San Francisco, California and Portland, Oregon in
August or September, so if you know of a good band for us to pair up
with, tell em to get in touch with us.
Bludgeoning
British Columbia
Earlier
this Spring, we had the delight of playing with Motorama
in Vancouver BC at the old Samoos in Downtown Vancouver, and at The
Brickyard the night after. Both places had the great vibe of street
people coming in, and freaking out the normals. Sounds like when the
old punk bands would put street people on the guest list. The most amazing
"winning the crowd over" situation Ive participated
in yet:
Picture
this: us in our usual stage shit mood, stacks of amplifiers thanks to
a bolstering by Motorama's backline. More angry speaker enclosures than
most in the audience had seen leveled at them in a long time, Id
venture. About 70% of the crowd was the "baggy cords, beanie hat,
and alt.rock dude windbreaker with 70's car racing motif design".
Out of the crowd comes some inventive heckling in the form of "metaallll"
and "Judas Priest maaaaan". 3 songs into it, and the front
6 or so rows were filled with people going apeshit, yelling and bashing
around one another. Also the first time weve had the majority
of the audience go to the front of the stage, rather than the back walls.
Fucking amazing. Best quotes: "the bass at the front hurt my head"
and "I'm gonna tell all my buds that they missed the show of the
year, man". The gods of low freq SPL's, thats us. We will
be back there soon.
Upcoming
EP
Look
for a new EP from us in the coming months. Featured will be remixes
from the current CD, new material for the next CD, and some REALLY HARSH
NOISE. Makes you kind of hungry just thinking about it...
Nial:
He's a made guy
Lastly,
Nial had the joy of recording with COP artists Deathline International
on their "Arashi Syndrom" CD. So look for it in good record
shops in the USA and Germany. Nial will be playing with them on their
European tour which, strangely enough, will be around the time that
3D goes back on the road in the UK. hmmmm.
